He has been awarded numerous awards for his paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces including Best of Show, 2001, for his acrylic piece “Purgatory”at the Art Association of Harrisburg’s annual membership show.
In 2002, his acrylic painting “Preserving the Fabric” took top honors in Pennsylvania State Education Association’s statewide art competition.
Suchma’s painting “Nude in a Phone Booth” was included in the Susquehanna Art Museum’s “Celebrate Doshi” retrospective in 2008.
His editorial art is featured regularly in New York DC 37’s Public Employee Press, Central Pennsylvania Business Journal, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau’s Country Focus and Harrisburg Magazine.
A winner of numerous awards for editorial art in the Public Employee Press, Gene took both first and second place for editorial cartooning by the International Labor Communications Association in 2008

His commissioned work includes religious art, pastel portraiture and interior murals. He has a variety of styles from traditional to contemporary.
Copyrighted Works:
He copyrighted a series of socially conscious designs, the Peaceable Pals, aimed at promoting peace and tolerance, which have appeared on clothing, greeting cards and other items.
Arts Educator:
His teaching experience includes public, private and alternative schools as well as work as Artist in Residence in the State Correctional Institution at Camp Hill PA.
